sorry about the long break.. it's the holidays, so shut up.
Today's special link goes to my newest friend, Broog the Alien Film Critic. I find Broog's taste in film to be impeccable, and his reviews deftly written. Much moreso than Harry Knowles, who is the bastard child of Jabba the Hutt and Samwise Ganges. Farewell, Rotten Tomatoes! I need not your meta-meta-meta reviews! I now place my trust in a slimy, hate-filled being from another planet.
"Also, the lugubrious pace of the movie is owed not to vast detail but to a sense of its own significance"
That's it! The words that express exactly how I felt about the movie; even though I still enjoyed it, I'll just hang back here next to the bar with the better-paced and better-directed Two Towers.
"for example, the mortal showdown between horse and elephant cavalry should have excited admiration, horror, and pity, but Broog was frankly bewildered as to why the tiny horsemen did not simply attack from the side."
That drove me fucking nuts. I kept thinking over and over: no wonder the Empire of Men is in such trouble, what with shitty field tactics like that. Where did they dig up these geniuses--from the Morrowind AI?
